Brand information
Fortron® PPS
HIGH TEMPERATURE STABILITY, BROAD CHEMICAL, STRENGTH AND CREEP RESISTANCE
Fortron® polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) is a high-temperature semicrystalline polymer that provides high thermal stability, very high chemical resistance, stiffness, strength and creep resistance.
Product Properties
By adding glass fibers and glass fiber/mineral mixtures to standard Fortron PPS, it allows:
- service temperatures up to 240°C
- very good resistance to chemicals and solvents
- inherent flame resistant (UL 94 V-0, some grades 5VA)
- very low moisture absorption
- suitable for lead-free soldering
- excellent creep resistance even at elevated temperatures
The Fortron PPS chemical structure provides excellent chemical and thermal resistance. Insoluble in all known solvents below 200°C (392°F), it has very good stability in both typical and alternative automotive fuels.
Grades
- Glass-filled grades
- Mineral-glass grades
- Low-wear grades
- Blow-molding grades
- Medical technology (MT®)
Processing
- Injection molding
- Extrusion (film, fiber, sheet, shapes)
- Blow molding
In addition, Fortron PPS can be extruded with meltblown and spunbond technologies for melt spun nonwovens. Unfilled, high viscosity Fortron PPS is also suitable for extrusion and compression molding to produce sheets, rods and other stock shapes commonly used for prototyping.
It has broad automotive, drinking water, food contact and aerospace approvals.
