Solution-Styrene Butadiene Rubber (S-SBR)

Evolving Trinseo's innovation and collaboration processes with SPRINTAN™ Solution-Styrene Butadiene Rubber (S-SBR) products.

Trinseo’s polymerized S-SBR, produced by anionic batch polymerization, is available in a wide variety of styrene and vinyl contents. For use in high-performance tires, S-SBR products provide an excellent balance between wet grip, low rolling resistance, and abrasion resistance in silica and carbon black compounds. They are also used to manufacture high-quality industrial rubber goods.

For more than 80 years, Trinseo have consistently invested in resources and technologies, strictly focusing on our customers’ success. The latest functionalized SPRINTAN™ S-SBR grades are proven to reduce rolling resistance lab indicators by 50 percent compared to non-functionalized synthetic rubber grades. This enables a three to five percent fuel consumption reduction in passenger cars, depending on final tire construction.

As part of Trinseo's investment in customers’ success, in 2018, they inaugurated state-of-the-art S-SBR pilot plant in Schkopau, Germany. This allowed to further evolve the innovation and collaboration process and accelerate the product validation and time-to-market through sample quantity production (tailored to in-depth testing in combination with polymerization) and finishing in flexible process configurations.
