Rilsan® PA11: A High-Performance, Bio-Based Polyamide

Rilsan® PA11 is a unique, high-performance polyamide produced from renewable castor seeds, making it a polymer with 100% renewable origin. Unlike other sources, castor oil does not compete with food crops, ensuring sustainability.

Widely used in the most demanding markets, Rilsan® PA11 combines properties such as chemical, thermal, and mechanical resistance, offering outstanding versatility, safety, and durability for highly technical applications. It has been continuously developed by Arkema for over fifty years, establishing itself as a reference in the world of performance polyamides.

Key Properties of Rilsan® PA11:

• Low Density: Suitable for metal or rubber substitution.

• Chemical Resistance: Resistant to fuels, oils, gases, water, solvents, and industrial fluids.

• Low Moisture Uptake: Ensures dimensional stability and consistency of properties (dry vs. wet).

• Mechanical Resistance: Excellent impact, elongation, abrasion resistance, and pressure bearing for pipes.

• Flexibility and Elasticity: Offers flexibility, plasticity, and elastic behaviour.

• Thermal Stability: Operates from -60°C to +150°C, with greater thermal stability than Rilsamid® PA12.

• Processing Versatility: Grades dedicated to different processes.

• Low Permeation: Better barrier properties to fuels and gases compared to other flexible thermoplastics or rubbers.

Applications of Rilsan® PA11:

• Transport: Control cables, quick connectors, fuel lines, air conditioning fluid tubes, and clips.

• Packing, Tubes & Films: Pneumatic and hydraulic tubes, alimentary films, and beer tubes.

• Medical: Catheters, blood bags, and syringes.

• Electric & Electronic: Anti-termite telephone cable sheathing, flame retardant cable sheathing, telephone wires sheathing, and cable ties.

• Industry: Flexible tubes for the offshore industry, mechanical fittings for gas tubes, gas-meter and water-meter gears, ski top layers, outsoles for cycling, football, and cross-country ski shoes, and tennis racquet grommets.

Rilsan® PA11 is known for its excellent resistance to ageing and durability, making it an ideal choice for a wide range of applications. It offers a significantly higher safety factor than Rilsamid® PA12, with twice the resilience in the Charpy notched impact test at -30°C.
