Polyesterification Methods and PET Applications

The polyesterification of polyester chips is realised by the PTA method and DMT method. PTA is advantageous in low raw material consumption and short reaction period, and has been the main process and preferred technical route for polyesterification since the 1980s. Large-scale production lines use a continuous production process, while semi-continuous and intermittent production processes are suitable for medium and small-scale production plants. The applicability of PET extends beyond fibre to various containers, packing materials, thin membranes, films, and engineering plastics.
