Brand Information
Braskem Polypropylene: High-Performance and Reliable
Braskem is a leading producer of polypropylene (PP) resins, offering a wide range of products that meet industry demands. As the fourth largest producer of PP in the world, Braskem's production focuses on delivering high-quality materials with exceptional properties.
General Information on Polypropylene:
Polypropylene is the most versatile plastic and can be converted by all main production processes, including blown film, cast film, extrusion blow moulding (EBM), injection stretch blow moulding (ISBM), thermoforming, injection moulding, fibre spinning, and extrusion. Polypropylene is typically divided into three main groups, each displaying different outstanding properties:
- PP Homopolymer: Highest stiffness
- PP Copolymer: Highest impact resistance
- PP Random Copolymer: Highest transparency
Main Properties of Polypropylene:
- Lightweight: One of the lightest polymers in the portfolio with a density of 0.905
- Chemical Resistance: Resistant to a wide range of chemicals
- Cost-Effective: One of the cheapest materials on the market
- Temperature Resistance: Suitable for microwave applications
- Safety: Non-toxic, food-approved, and suitable for medical applications
- Variety: Enormous variety of properties across three families
- Compounding: Excellent base for compounding
- Recyclability: Easy to recycle and re-use
- Deadfold and Integral Hinge Properties
European Production Assets:
Braskem operates two production sites in Europe:
- Wesseling, Germany: Mainly produces PP homopolymer (PP H) and PP random copolymer (PPR) with a capacity of 275 kton, including medical grades.
- Schkopau, Germany: Mainly produces PP copolymer (PPC) with a capacity of 350 kton, including high melt flow index (MFI) grades without peroxide.
Strengths and Applications:
Braskem offers a large portfolio of high stiffness HPP grades, making it an excellent base for compounding and upgrading the stiffness or MFI of recycled materials. This is particularly beneficial for injection moulding (IM) customers requiring higher stiffness, replacing PP 10% talcum filled, and high MFI HPP (110). Additionally, Braskem provides an extensive range of high impact resins for injection moulding, a full portfolio of thermoforming addressing all challenges, and a comprehensive range in H/C/R in fractional melt. Braskem also offers Post Consumer Recycled (PCR) grades, as well as mass balanced options, supporting sustainable practices.
Typical Applications:
Braskem polypropylene resins are used in various applications, including food packaging, pails, crates and boxes, caps and closures, fibres and staple fibres, films, tubes and pipes, sheets and profiles, housewares, and consumer goods.
