Thermoplastic compounds are a method of blending additives to a base polymer. This can be minerals such as talc, calcium, glass fibres, impact modifiers, or colourants. The base polymer and additive(s) are fed through an extruder where they are combined. The melt blended compound exits the extruder in strands of a set diameter. These strands are cooled and cut into pellets. The pellets can then be injection moulded into ISO test bars to produce mechanical tests which we use to populate the TDS for the specific compound.
