Brand Information
Celstran® CFR-TP - Continuous Fibre Reinforced Thermoplastic
Easy Processing with Outstanding Mechanical and Thermal Performance
Celstran® CFR-TP, a continuous fibre-reinforced product with a thermoplastic matrix, is designed for increasingly demanding component requirements that filled or short fibre-reinforced thermoplastics are unable to meet and where metals are no longer an option.
Product Properties:
- Low weight with high stiffness and toughness
- Excellent impregnation technology
- High performance dimensional, mechanical, and thermal properties
- Superior chemical and corrosion resistance
- Eco-friendly processing and recyclability
- Wide range of resins, fibres, and additives
Celstran CFR-TP uses a patented process to achieve high impregnation quality without fibre damage. Every single filament of the reinforcement fibres is wetted intensively in this process.
Tapes and Forms:
- Unidirectional tapes (4-, 6-, 8-, 10-inch and custom widths)
Nearly all types of semicrystalline and amorphous thermoplastic polymers are suitable as thermoplastic matrix materials and can be combined with a wide range of fibres and additives to provide localised reinforcement where additional strength is needed.
Processing:
- Automated tape lay-up/consolidation — winding and tape placement
- Press consolidation — double belt press, press consolidation, and continuous press consolidation
- Fluid heat transfer under vacuum (Quickstep-patented process of Quickstep Technologies Pty. Ltd.)
- Partial reinforcement — injection-moulding incorporation, compression-moulding incorporation, extrusion incorporation
- Sandwich structures
Celstran® LFRT - Long Fibre Reinforced Thermoplastic
Excellent Mechanical Properties and Low Warpage for Metal Replacement
Celstran® long fibre reinforced thermoplastics (LFRT) unite long fibre reinforcements with advanced thermoplastic resins for a combination of mechanical properties, impact, creep resistance, and low warpage.
Incorporated fibres can be glass, carbon, aramid, and stainless steels. Nearly all types of polymers are suitable as matrix material.
Product Properties:
- Markedly higher mechanical properties
- High notched impact strength
- Reduced creep
- Very good stability over a broad range of temperatures and climatic conditions
Celstran LFRT is produced by pultrusion technology — the long fibres are impregnated to deliver optimal reinforcement to the plastic matrix. Unlike conventional short-fibre reinforced materials, the longer fibres form an internal glass fibre “skeleton” that limits anisotropic shrinkage and greatly reduces warpage in parts.
Grades:
- Matrix materials: PP, PA (further matrix materials on request)
- Glass fibre reinforced: fibre content 20 to 60 percent
- Carbon fibre reinforced
- Aramid fibre reinforced
- Stainless steel filaments for EMI and RFI shielding
Processing:
- Injection moulding
