Brand Information
EcoPaXX® PA410 - High-Performance Biobased Polyamide
EcoPaXX® PA410, developed by Envalior, is an aliphatic, biobased polyamide made primarily from tropical castor beans, which do not compete with the food chain. This innovative material combines the high mechanical properties of short-chain polyamides with the lower moisture uptake and higher chemical resistance of long-chain polyamides. EcoPaXX® PA410 is 72% biobased and offers a range of benefits, including:
- Low moisture absorption – 30% lower than PA66, resulting in more dimensionally stable parts.
- High mechanical properties – suitable for demanding applications.
- Easy processing – can be processed in PA66 tools with better surface quality.
- Excellent surface finish – ideal for applications where aesthetics are important.
- High melting point – up to 250°C, the highest of all biopolymers.
- High crystallisation speed – similar to PA66 and PA6 for fast and easy processing.
Applications:
- Automotive: Ideal for applications requiring good thermal properties and mechanical stability after water/glycol ageing. It also offers good resistance to road salt exposure.
- Water Management: Suitable for warm and hot water applications.
- Consumer Goods and Electronics: Enables the production of thinner wall parts with the same mechanical performance. Offers good dielectric strength due to lower water uptake and availability of halogen-free flame retardant grades suitable for parts needing V0 – V2 rating.
- Food Contact Applications: Food contact grades offer lower cyclic oligomer levels compared to PA6 or PA66, resulting in safer solutions for the food and packaging industry.
EcoPaXX® PA410 has one of the lowest carbon footprint among common polyamides. The carbon dioxide emitted during production is offset by the amount absorbed during the growth of riccinus communis (the tropical castor bean plant that makes up to 70% of EcoPaXX®). The transparency and traceability of EcoPaXX® products are ensured by Cradle-to-Gate Life Cycle Analysis, considering the entire supply chain from plant growth to product production.
