Stanyl
Brand Information
PA46 - Stanyl®
Stanyl® is a high-performance polyamide 4,6 (PA46) developed by Envalior and distributed by Resinex. This aliphatic polyamide is formed by the polycondensation of 1.4-diaminobutane and adipic acid, resulting in a unique structural symmetry that leads to high crystallinity. With a high melting temperature of 295°C, Stanyl® offers exceptional properties, including:
- Excellent high-temperature mechanical performance
- Superior wear and friction properties
- Outstanding flow
Discover Stanyl®
The crystallinity of Stanyl® is the key to its unique properties. Its symmetrical polymer structure allows the polymers to fit in multiple ways, resulting in high crystallisation speeds and crystallinity. These properties give rise to excellent mechanical wear and friction performance at high temperatures. Stanyl® bridges the gap between conventional engineering plastics such as PA6, PA66, PBT, and PET, and exotic materials like LCP, PPS, and PEEK.
Why is PA46 Stanyl® Special?
Stanyl®'s higher number of amide groups per given chain length and its symmetrical chain structure result in a higher melting temperature of 295°C, higher crystallinity, and a faster rate of crystallisation. These characteristics explain its high toughness level, short cycle times, high stiffness above Tg, low level of creep above Tg, excellent fatigue properties, good heat resistance, and excellent abrasion resistance. The aliphatic structure also ensures good flow.
Benefits for Moulders and End Users:
- Resistance to High Temperatures: Ensures durability in demanding applications.
- Increased Productivity: Up to 30% productivity increase of moulding equipment.
- Greater Design Freedom: Excellent mechanical properties and good mould-flow behaviour.
- Economical Processing: Safe and convenient processing with water-heated moulds.
- No Post-Treatment: Absence of flash eliminates the need for post-treatment.
- No Retooling Necessary: Seamless transition from PA6, PA66, or polyesters.
Typical Applications:
- Air Management: The Diablo portfolio was created to improve heat ageing performance versus standard heat-stabilised materials.
- Gears, Valves, and Timing Chain Guides: A wide range of wear and friction grades are available.
- Electronics: Ideal for connectors requiring superior weld line strength, high CTI, and high flow, promoting strong mechanical performance.
