Flooring

Flooring can be made from several different polymers, and can also be compounded with fibres and other fillers or specific additives to give a specific property. Polyvinylchloride (PVC) is a common material used in flooring as its durable and water resistant. Polyethylene (PE) and Polypropylene (PP) are also used for their sound proofing properties and in insulation. There are also plenty of Eco friendly options with sustainable manufacturing processes.

Furniture

We want the most up-to-date designs and durability. In todays environment we also want to look at sustainabile options. In this instance we would look at materials using Post Industrial Recylate (PIR) and Post Consumer Recylate (PCR).

There are lots of options for use in making furniture depending on our design needs. Polypropylene (PP) and Polyethylene (PE) are often used for outdoor furniture. While our indoor furniture needs to last longer and be more design friendly and so Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) is often used for it impact properties.

Flexible and soft touch materials are also used to improve aesthetics and wear.

Garden Tools

The tools and applications used in the garden require the right properties to deal with the harsh environment. Weathering capabilities and resistance to agricultural chemicals is necessary. As well as having a pleasing aesthetic finish. We have solutions from uv resistant Polypropylene (PP) to high wear resistant PA4,6 gears for lawn mowers.

General Household

The versatility of plastics means that its being used in a lot of household applications. Whether its because of its cost effectiveness versus other materials, or the range of food contact materials that we can offer. Resinex has the portfolio to match. Kitchen Appliances

As demand for more sophisticated appliances increases, so does the need for more advanced technology. We work with the leading manufacturers such as Celanese and Envalior to find the product suitable for the application. We also have our own Ravago Manufacturing range of filled Polypropylene (PP) and soft touch materials and Trinseo to look at clear options for displays and fridge liners.

Kitchenware

Plastics in our kitchen are everywhere due to it being lightweight and durable.

Our coffee makers and mixers all have plastics casing and components within the electrics using materials such as Polybutylene Terephthalate (PBT) or Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) which has higher thermal stability. Chemical resistance is important as we regularly use cleaners to maintain germ free surfaces.

Our containers we use to take our lunch to work or the utensils that we use on the non-stick frying pan can all be made from plastic. Polyethylene (PE) and Polypropylene (PP) are often the material of choice due to being able to mould these with transparency and the moisture resistance.

Personal Care

Plastics used in the bathroom environment need to be resistant to moisture. Used in the production of bottles and tubes, the suitability of the material to be blow moulded into shape makes it more cost effective and Polyethylene and Polypropylene are easily processed using this method.

PET-G is another common material used in these packaging areas as its suitable in both hot and cold environments and has good impact and chemical resistance. These materials can also be easily coloured.

PVC is a material of choice when flexibilty is required combined with water resistance and chemical resistance.

Some chemicals, although not harmful to the skin, can be attack certain types of plastic.

Plastics are also used in hair removal devices. ABS and PC/ABS, suitable for its durability and ability for colouring offers good dimensional stability.

Soft touch materials are also used, such as TPEs and TPV's for handles and attachments.

Sport & Leisure

In water sports, the use of rotomoulded Polyethylene (PE) in kayaks provides durability (good impact resistance for those knocks as you power down the river!) and they're lightweight for transportation. Not only that but also there is the ability to produce a brightly coloured range of boats.

Helmets used for cycling or during sports games need to have a high impact resistance. Polycarbonate (PC) has superior impact resistance and will withstand one impact and then its impact properties will be diminished.

Other articles are used in the leisure industry such as camping equipment. Nylon clips and fastenings for tents and lightweight accessories.

Gym equipment will often have plastic handles on the grips of the weights or seating made from PVC which is easy to clean and chemically resistant.

Stadiums have plastic seating made from polyethylene or polypropylene and there are outdoor toys using plastics for its durability as mentioned in the section on toys.

Toys

The versatility of plastics enables the freedom of design and probably the most important factor is durability! They also need to be bright and colourful to attract attention and keep interest, which means that the plastic must be easily coloured. ABS is often used because of its good impact properties and its ability to be coloured even to pastel colours.

Polypropylene and Polyethylene are used because of their colourability, economics and ease of processing, as well as the durability for their not so careful owners!

Elastomers and Polyurethanes can then be overmoulded to give that soft touch, particularly useful to develop sensory skills.

It is also a common theme that we want a more eco friendly alternative, and one that is sustainable. It is beneficial that we have materials in our portfolio.
