Rilsan® Clear: Transparent Polyamides for Innovative Design

Arkema's Rilsan® Clear transparent polyamides create exciting new design possibilities for injection moulded parts. The Rilsan® Clear product range meets unfulfilled needs by providing greater flexibility and easier processing than existing solutions, creating new opportunities in various markets, such as sports and leisure.

Brief History of Transparent Polyamides

The chemistry and benefits of transparent polyamides have progressed substantially. Semi-aromatic Polyamides (PASA), such as Arkema's Rilsan® Clear G170, were among the first materials to compete in this market, known for their high-temperature performance and characteristic rigidity. Cycloaliphatic Polyamides (PACA) followed, offering substantial progress in properties. Arkema's Rilsan® Clear G350 represents the next evolutionary step in developing flexible, tough, easily processed transparent polyamides. Today, Arkema continues to innovate with Rilsan® Clear G830 Rnew, the latest bio-based high-performance polyamide.

Key Properties of Rilsan® Clear:

• Transparency: Critical for most optical applications, Rilsan® Clear grades are as transparent as other preferred optical materials at thicknesses of 2 mm.
• Density: The lightest engineering resin known, ranging from 1.02 to 1.05.
• Chemical Resistance: The latest generation of Rilsan® Clear demonstrates much better chemical resistance than previous generations, especially in terms of environmental stress cracking resistance (ESCR).
• Bio-Based Materials: Rilsan® Clear uses varying levels of bio-based raw materials while still offering outstanding performance. Rilsan® Clear G850 Rnew uses 45% bio-based raw materials, and Rilsan® Clear G820 Rnew uses 65% bio-based raw materials, offering the perfect solution to lower carbon footprint.

• Industrial: Filter casings.
• Electrical/Electronics: Mobile phone casings/lenses and anti-rodent cables.
