ELVAX™ - Ethylene Vinyl Acetate Copolymer Resins
Sealing the Deal
Produced by DOW, ELVAX™ EVA Copolymer Resins offer versatile options for sealants in meat and dairy packaging, footwear, wire and cable insulation, and photovoltaic encapsulants and sheets. Additionally, ELVAX™ EVA serves as a PVC alternative in non-invasive medical tubing and bag applications.
ELVAX™ EVA can be used in various processing methods including:
- Blown or cast monolayer
- Coextruded films
- Blending with other resins
- Moulding or extruded liner seals inside plastic and metal bottle caps
These resins are an excellent choice for applications requiring low-temperature sealing, flexibility, and puncture resistance, making them ideal for food and medical packaging. This translates to energy savings, faster packaging speeds, fewer package failures, and reduced waste.
By choosing ELVAX™ EVA, you can benefit from:
- Fast packaging speeds due to low seal initiation temperature
- Low shrink temperature
- Superior adhesion compared to polyethylene (PE) to various substrates, including polyolefins, PVC, PS, and PET
- Greater softness and clarity than PE
- Enhanced flexibility
- Increased impact strength
- Improved puncture resistance
- Excellent resistance to flex cracking
- Superior flow and caulking in seal areas
- Strong bonding to PVdC in coextrusion processes
Moreover, ELVAX™ EVA resins can be tailored to meet the specific performance requirements of your application, such as:
- Packaging for cheese blocks
- Packaging for cereal and snacks
- Barrier packaging for meats and fresh foodstuffs
- Closures, lids, and lidding films
- Medical packaging foaming web
- Consumer goods
- Footwear
- Wire and cable insulation
ELVAX™ EVA's broad product portfolio allows you to easily find the right grade to improve toughness and flexibility in your packaging application. With VA content ranging from 7.5% to 33% and MFI from 0.35 to 43, ELVAX™ EVA includes tubular and autoclave grades, low gel grades, and additive grades containing slip and anti-block.
Increasing the level of Vinyl-Acetate in the ELVAX™ EVA polymer provides:
- Less crystallinity
- More polarity (better oil resistance)
- Higher flex crack resistance
- Better optics
- Lower heat seal initial temperature
ELVAX™ EVA is suitable for the following processing methods:
- Blown film
- Cast film
- Extrusion coated film
- Extrusion laminating
- Coextruded film
