Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is a highly versatile and cost-effective material, making it a popular choice as the world’s third most widely used plastic. PVC is an excellent alternative to many traditional materials due to its versatility, durability, and cost-effectiveness.

Westlake has PVC manufacturing plants in Calvert City, Kentucky, and Geismar, Louisiana, benefiting from vertical integration with vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) production at both plants. In Europe, production facilities are located in Burghausen, Gendorf, Cologne, Knapsack, and Schkopau in Germany, and Hillhouse in the United Kingdom. The portfolio includes speciality PVC resin, Vinnolit.

Steps to Produce PVC:

1. Production of VCM monomer

2. Polymerisation – forming PVC via suspension (PVC resin beads) or emulsion (PVC latex)

3. Drying and mixing – removing water and mixing with additives to enhance properties

4. Shaping – Extrusion or injection moulding to produce the desired application
